The majority of contact records will be of type Owner. The contact type in most cases is automatically assigned by the application based on the function of the input field when a new contact is being added to the table.
All new contacts are added at these particular fields throughout the Permit and Property dialog screens.
A Contractor may also be added from the contractor list. Once an individual has been added to the table they are then available to be selected from a list of all contacts of a particular type which is suitable for input in a field requiring that particular contact type.
An individual or company entered as a Contractor is available in the Contractor input field of a building permit or the Applicant input field of all permits. A contact of type
Contractor will be linked automatically to any number of building permits for which they are the contractor.
Contractors are additionally linked to an insurance table where the contractors
current insurance information is stored. The insurance data allows the
application to prompt the user if a particular contractors insurance information
is expiring. This prompt is automatically done when opening a permit, editing
the contractor or by a tickle report where the user has input the days until the
insurance policies of contractors on all "Active" and
"Pending" Building permits will expire. If that individual or company also is a property owner they would be entered into the database again as the type
Owner.
The deed owner of a property may act as his own contractor without being added as a type
Contractor. This would only be appropriate for an individual not practicing as or employed as a Contractor.
This feature prevents the application from prompting the user about contractor
insurance information. The building permit dialog's contractor input field allows for this circumstance.
An individual or company entered into the database as an Owner will be automatically linked to any number of properties where they are the deed owner.
A contact may be deleted if it has no related records. The application prevents the user from inadvertently deleting these contacts.
Permit Manager version 8.01 contains
a new function, "Replace Contact", to facilitate bulk updating of a
contact's associated records.
